We do not keep statistics in the South East Fall Classic, so scoring can be highly simplified. The scorebook for the home team is the official book and should be used for both teams, with one page for the home team, one for the visitors. Enter the team names and the date at the top of each page.
The scorebook looks something like the following with one column for each inning. There may be other markings in the book that you can ignore for Very Simpified Scorekeeping. You do not need to use the columns for the number or position of a player.
Enter the lineup (first and last names if possible)--this will be the batting order. If a player arrives after the game starts, add him or her to the bottom. The columns for the innings are used to keep score, with the diamond representing the base path.
The player at bat either records an out, or ends up on base.
An out, either from a strikeout, a fly ball, a forceout at first base, or a tag when she tries to stretch the single into a triple is indicated by the circled number of the out ( 1, 2, or 3).
On base safely, either through a great hit, a walk, or an error. Darken the path along the diamond, and make a tick to show whether the player had a single, double, triple, or home run. The home run also is darkened to show that a run was scored.
As a runner advances, show her or his progress on the diamond in the score box. If they score a heavy dot is placed in center of diamond. The following diagram shows successive steps in filling in one column
Step 1: First batter is out on a throw to first, circle a 1. Second batter reaches first on a line drive, mark line with a tick showing where they stopped.
Step 2: Third batter hits a single and a line is drawn to first with a tick to show they stopped there. Meanwhile, the runner on first scampers to third, so a line is continued to second and third with a tick at third to show that they stopped there.
Step 3: Fourth batter hits a ground ball to the shortstop who throws to second making a force-out on the runner coming from first. This is the second out, so 2 is circled for that runner. The batter is safe on first, so a line with a tick is drawn. The runner on third stays there, so no additional marks are needed.
Step 4: Fifth batter hits a triple, amd a line is drawn around the bases to third with a tick there. The other runners score, so lines are continued around to complete the square, and dots are shaded in to show that they scored.
Step 5: Sixth batter hits double, so line is drawn around diamond to second with a tick there. The runner on third scores, so the line is drawn to home and a dot is shaded in..
Step 6: Seventh batter hits a pop fly that is caught for the final out, a 3 is circled. Two lines are drawn under the diamond for this last batter, showing the end of the inning. Mark out the diamonds for players who did not come to bat so you know not to use these in the next inning. Total the runs for the inning at the bottom of the column. Verify the score with the umpire and opposing team at the end of every half inning.
Batter 8 would be the first batter in the next inning.
